Cleveland’s Brickhaus Claims a Stake in South Richmond

Cleveland’s Brickhaus Partners is set to acquire a prime piece of real estate that has recently been rezoned in the Springhill neighborhood at the southwestern edge of the Lee Bridge. With views of both the city and the James River, Brickhaus is known for high end development.

As we reported earlier in the year, the property at 701 Stonewall Ave., 700 Cowardin Ave., and 701, 705 and 715 W. 19th St was rezoned by Jeremy Connell to RF-2 Riverfront District. This zoning allows for a mix of development including multifamily buildings as high as 13 stories, single-family homes, and duplexes.

Andrew Brickman of Brickhaus Partners was quoted in Richmond BizSense as having to say the folllowing about the project: “I’m not big on sprawl or the suburbs. We’re an urban developer; we want to bring people back to the central business district and its neighborhoods,” Brickman said. “That’s already occurring in Richmond, which is what makes this market so important to us.”

The header image and the photos below are a sampling of images from projects that Brickhaus Partners has done in Cleveland, Ohio. The group reported to Richmond BizSense that they had plans to start construction by the summer of 2019.

  1. I actually like their design. It’s not a cheesy knock off of a historic building, or a half attempt at “modern”. I’ll never afford one but income diversity on both sides of the spectrum is critical for a truly diverse neighborhood. Frankly, I feel we have too many low income units now, to the point I feel it may be limiting our ability to attract retail (supermarkets) to our area. More residents on the other end of the spectrum may help increase our ability to to attract retailers. IMHO…

    1. Charlie,
What exactly do you feel is so hideous? If you followed the history of this property, you would welcome the attention this site calls for. It has comanding panoramic views of downtown, the river and Oregon Hill, on the edge of an Old and Historic neighborhood. A lot better than the 200 unit, VCU’esq apartment blob the City approved 10 years ago.
