Privacy & Use Policy

Whenever you visit or interact with our website, The Dogtown Dish, certain information about your computer and network is made available and sometimes stored. Our webserver stores the visitors’ IP address, browser type, which page was requested, search terms that may have led to the site, the referring site if a link was followed, and possibly other information that we don’t know about. Nothing in this information is used to identify a specific visitor, although an IP address can sometimes be traced to a specific user.

When you post a comment the site or submit information through the contact form, your IP address and web browser version can be recorded and associated with that post or submission.

Because of this, we sometimes know more about a visitor than they make public. We value the privacy of our visitors. We guarantee that no information that is submitted by a visitor will be made public unless the visitor explicitly makes this information available his or herself, or unless we are for some reason legally compelled to do so. We will not divulge or act upon this information publicly in any way. If you choose to post anonymously or pseudonymously, we will respect your choice.

Abusive comments will not be allowed. Even though this is online, please remember that the people you are addressing are your neighbors.

Anonymous comments are ok and useful, if not abused. They work best, in the context of this site, if you limit yourself to one pseudonym. There are anonymous folks that post quite frequently, but as a reader we have a sense of what they are all about because they regularly use the same pseudonym. As a follow-up to that, posting bunches of comments under multiple names in the same discussion not allowed. Please do not abuse the ability to post anonymously.

While you are not required to use your real name, you must provide a working email address.

Attempting to pretend to be someone else, ie posting a comment as the President, or as one of the other folks that comment here regularly is a no-no.

Be careful when posting as a comment email that you have received from someone else. It is usually the case that an entire email is likely not relevant, and so publishing the whole email borders on violating privacy issues. If you would like to refer to email that you have received relevant to a topic, please summarize and even quote passages.

We reserve the right to delete any comment at anytime. All comments are moderated. This is both to weed out the automated spam comments that keep trying to slip through and to ensure that the comments follow the site Use Policy.

Snarky political one-liners, race baiting comments, and personal attacks are frowned upon. If this is your sole contribution to the conversation, please don’t. Your commenting privileges will risk being deleted/revoked if you engage in this behavior.

The person posting the comment reserves all rights and responsibilities for their posted comment.
