Manchester Market Has Arrived News by Michael C. Hild - May 20, 2016May 20, 2016124 We get really excited in Manchester about the basics. Potholes are patched. Empty tree wells are filled with trees. Well now there is another to add to the list. Lower Hull Street now has a market! The new Manchester Market is located in the Port RVA building at 500 Hull St and opened in early May. I have heard positive feedback from residents in the area who are thrilled they don’t have to cross the bridge anymore to pick up basic convenience items. The store has beer, wine, convenience items, a kitchen & deli, and a small assortment of fresh produce. Have you been to Manchester Market yet? What did you think?
So great!! Nice selection of things and definitely nice to not have to drive out for basic stuff. Stoked! But what is going in across the street? Rumors say a big grocery store? Moving on up Manchester! Reply
Farm Fresh is within walking distance. I would love a full-service grocer in the ‘hood but let’s not be dramatic. Reply
Adrienne Gonzalez Official definitions of food desert put the distance for a food desert in an urban area at one mile or sometimes even less. A mile is reasonable walking distance for someone carrying groceries, rather than reasonable walking distance for just getting from point A to point B. http://www.ers.usda.gov/data-products/food-access-research-atlas/go-to-the-atlas.aspx Reply
No grocery store will come until there is a critical mass of residents. We are all doing what we can to make that happen as stakeholders improve the neighborhood. Until then, please support the brave retailers and businesses that are on the leading edge of a growing neighborhood. Reply

Love the convenience of the store and it’s selection. I only have a problem with the food area. The food is fantastic but only seems to operate a few hours a day. Almost every time I go in there I am told there is no food today. Reply
I actually have heard that a Grocery store might be coming to the corner of Hull st. and Commerce rd. on the lot where Seiberts once had a car lot. There has been critical mass in this area for awhile, anyone venturing into the wider community areas of Blackwell and Manchester will already be aware of this. Reply
