It looks like it’s going to get a lot easier to spend your lunch money without crossing the river. The Urban Farmhouse has just opened their newest location in Manchester. This is the 6th location for The Urban Farmhouse which is located on the first floor of 1200 Semmes Ave.

The Urban Farmhouse market & café was founded in 2010 with a mission in mind:  Bring the farm to the city and suburbs and provide area residents with local, wholesome food in a warm, rustic environment.  Eating in a restaurant can and should be a healthy and tasty experience.  Founder Kathleen Richardson said, “Richmonders have shown they want good, straight-from-the-earth food where they know where and how it’s been grown.”

Shockoe Slip in Richmond, Virginia provided the perfect opportunity.  A former storefront in a historic warehouse, just blocks from one of America’s oldest farmers markets, represented the ideals of urban renewal, eco-friendly design, and healthy dining options, all in the heart of the city.  A second location was established near the historic village of Midlothian, Virginia, and we still maintain our commitment to locally sourced and organic foods, fair trade coffees and teas, and a level of comfort reminiscent of a rustic farmhouse kitchen.

We start each day with sustainably grown and freshly roasted coffees and fair trade teas.  The menu is prepared with the freshest of produce, dairy and naturally raised meats, and they’re delivered daily.  We have forged relationships with local growers and vendors, and use ingredients which represent a commitment to sustainability, organic methods, and farm-to-table meals.  Free-range eggs and Virginia hams mix with fresh-baked bagels and locally made preserves. Salads and sandwiches highlight fresh, seasonal and locally-grown products. Our involvement with a local CSA provides us with berries, peaches, and apples that are a perfect accompaniment to artisan breads and wines that are only organic, biodynamic, sustainable, or local. The menu, like nature’s bounty, will change to reflect the seasons. The Market provides shoppers with foods, spices, beverages, all-natural and locally-made beauty products, and more; all represent artisans and craftsmen who share our commitment of providing the very best of what Virginia offers.

Creativity and our joy of all things “local” continues with our musical guests and artists.  Local musicians, young and old, visit The Urban Farmhouse Market & Café on select evenings and weekends to entertain with acoustic rock, folk, jazz, and world music renditions of traditional and original songs.  Artists from around Central Virginia grace our walls with sculpture, paintings, photographs and more, that add color, culture and a festive vibe to each location.  And all of the artwork is for sale!
