Plan for Homeless Shelter at Manchester’s Community Bainbridge Baptist Church Falls Through

The Richmond Times-Dispatch is reporting that Commonwealth Catholic Charities has abandoned its plans for a proposed homeless shelter at Community Bainbridge Baptist Church located at 1101 Bainbridge Street in Manchester.

Here is what the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported in the form of a statement from Commonwealth Catholic Charities this morning:

“’We simply could not accomplish the necessary steps to purchase the property within the time constraints off the existing agreement,’ said Jay Brown, the nonprofit’s division director of housing services.”

Jay Brown is quoted further in the article as stating that the group is continuing its search for a new homeless shelter location including cold weather services:

“’We will continue to search for an alternative location to house our services for people experiencing homelessness, including the emergency cold weather overflow shelter,’ Brown said.”

No word was provided in the article on what alternate locations Catholic Commonwealth Charities was considering for its newly proposed location.

It provides 24-hour staff supervision and guidance with the ultimate goal of attaining permanent housing and independent living. For more information about referrals, please call Angela Mitchell, director of Safe Haven, at 804-231-7137.

      Hope this helps. God bless.
