Crazy High Water at Belle Isle This Weekend News by Michael C. Hild - May 7, 2017May 8, 201779 So I have seen a lot of floodwater in Richmond, but this weekend stands out. Perhaps that is because we crossed Belle Isle this weekend to the south rather than our normal northern route. The area in the photographs south of Belle Isle is normally mostly dry rocks, but Saturday it was whitewater. The pictures don’t do justice to how fast and powerful the water was moving. The trail along the south bank was also flooded out. The power of the water flowing in an area that is normally a trickle at best while seeing entire trees floating down the river like toothpicks was reason enough for us to remember that Mother Nature is in charge. It was truly humbling to watch. Good show James…good show.
Unbelievable! We were driving over the bridge on 288 and couldn’t believe how high the water was. Can’t remember it ever being so high! Reply
