Originally the Jones-Green Shoe Co. building, 1213 Hull Street was originally built in 1911. The building was most recently Richmond Christian Family Service Store before it it was ultimately boarded up approximately 30+ years ago. The building is being renovated By Church Hill Ventures into apartments at the back and rear with 1st Floor Commercial/Retail facing Hull Street. I’d like to see us get something other than apartments. Church Hill has tons of cute shops and restaurants and is love to see our neighborhood move in that direction. Reply
There’s supposed to be 1st floor retail and we need businesses to start committing to these spaces. I’m ready for a quaint pub or diner to move in on Hull Street so I can walk over and have brunch or a couple beers. Reply
Jeff Ensley In the meantime head over to Camdens Dogtown Deli. They are one of the few eateries in the area and have what I think you are looking for. The owner is a bit ornery but the food is amazing! Reply
I wonder if they plan to restore the missing façade above the cornice? It’s sort of overkill, but could offer a nice space for signage for the downstairs retail space, perhaps; or could be used for house numbers (which appears to be what is in the original design). Regardless, this looks like it could be very attractive once finished. Reply
